I finally managed to make a decent mix of your first and second releases of "Vast Expanse Diminishing" and I look forward to your next CD.

On the off-chance you're trying to decide which way to steer the new album, here's what I liked off the previous one:

Severance: "V.E.D." version

Remnants: "Elements" version MINUS the cymbal loop

Paradigm: "Element" version

Alone: Both versions

A Cleansing Breath/It's Time We Let Go: Tough to choose. "Elements" version was well-done, but I still like the two-part "V.E.D." version, though the lyrics in the second part on "V.E.D." ARE a little over-intellectual, perhaps.

Have fun with that. Print it out and tape it to your dartboard or something.

To the Portal crew,

You guys have been making quite a stri in Australia. There are alot of people around who are starting to say "Hey, have you heard this? It's Portal."

A recent band, The Butterfly Effect have a similar sound to you guys (Personally, i like Portal better) but the Australian Music Scene has alot of room for Prgressive Metal, and I for one of many would love it if Portal could take a tour Down Under.

E-mail me, maybe, not like i could organise something, but touring australia is something alot fo bands dont consider until they're chart number 1 for a long time - Panic! at the disco came just the other week and were successful as hell.

As per one of the earlier posts, I just wanted to let you know that some of us do notice that you already make use of odd time signatures... 9/8 in Alone, 7/4 in a few songs... and is that 13 in Severance? Nice music. Singing is a bit forced, but you have a good voice. Lots of potential. Love the songs Insurgent Few and Paradigm (Genome's Base Remix). Most other songs have their moments too. With a bit more experience and experimentation you guys can do very well. Kudos... Canada rocks.

I must say I enjoy your throroughly. You have a heavy sound with great vocals that reminds me of Brett Scallions. You have great choruses, hooks and melodies without being too boring and commercial to listen to.

I really like the music - If I should suggest 1 thing it would be to make more use of odd measures, beats etc. like 9/8, 5/4 etc.

I would like to recommend you some bands in your style (tool, experimental, rage against the machine, grunge etc.)

I found Portal on GarageBand.com and I have to say that you guys are exceptional lyricists and actually far beyond the mediocre, mindless garbage being played on US radio stations. Unfortunately, you are just simply too good for commercial radio. My hope is that someday there will be a paradigm shift in what we demand from musicians. Thankfully, there are enough bands like you in existance to prevent me from giving up on intellectual lyrics and complimentary musicianship. I cannot praise you enough for all that you have done to improve the dignity of lyrical music.
